Title: New horizons for Murriyang (aka the Parkes Radio Telescope)
Abstract: Murriyang, aka The Parkes Radio Telescope, is in the midst of a complete renewal of its receiver fleet. In 2019, the Ultra-Wideband Low-frequency (UWL) receiver was installed and commissioned, allowing the iconic 64m radio telescope to simultaneously observe from 0.7 – 4.2 GHz (6:1). The UWL is now in regular operation and has already enhanced the outcomes of a wide range of scientific projects. The second new receiver is the cryogenically-cooled phased array feed (CryoPAF), with commissioning work set to begin in early 2023. The CryoPAF, which will observe from 0.7 – 1.9 GHz, will offer up to 72 formed beams covering a 4 deg^2 footprint, thus empowering Murriyang with unrivaled survey speed for a single-dish telescope. In this talk, I will further introduce the new receivers and their science results to-date as well as discuss the planned continuing renewal of the receiver fleet.
