AMT Colloquium

November 8 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

AMT Colloquium takes place every Tuesday at 10 AM virtually. Zoom link below.

Speaker: Prof. Annalisa Bonafede from University of Bologna.

Title: Magnetic field in galaxy clusters and beyond: new perspectives from low frequency observations

Abstract: In the last years, low frequency radio observations have shown that magnetic fields are present on large scales in clusters of galaxies reaching intra-cluster bridges and intergalactic filaments. We also have direct probe that AGN at the center of galaxy clusters and groups contribute to the magnetization of the intra-cluster and intra-group medium. Sensitive radio data give us now the opportunity to apply new techniques and constrain the properties of magnetic fields and the origin of the radio emission that are observed on large scales in the Universe (e.g. radio halos, radio relics, and radio bridges). In this talk, I will show these recent discoveries and discuss how they impact our knowledge of the non-thermal plasma in galaxy clusters and in the cosmic web.
