UW Space Place

UW Space Place Outreach Center is the education and public outreach center of the UW-Madison Astronomy Department.

The University of Wisconsin has been at the forefront of innovative astronomical research for over a century.  To encourage students, teachers, and the general public to learn, think, and talk about space science and research, the UW Space Place first opened in a refurbished Ponderosa Steak House in the summer of 1990.

Over the years, Space Place has grown into a vibrant public education center.  In August 2005 we moved into a beautiful new custom designed facility in The Villager, with professionally designed exhibits, a classroom space, lecture room, and a roof top deck for sky viewing.  We provide hands-on activities, lively presentations, and informative lectures by UW researchers.  Each year we offer over 100 free, public programs and open our doors to well over 10,000 visitors.  Please join us soon at UW Space Place, where science can be fun for everyone!
