Tanzania's only active volcano is Ol Doinyo Lengai, whose name means "Mountain of God" in the Maasai language. Here the 9,480-ft (2900-m) conical mountain is reflected in a rivulet of Lake Natron, a large soda lake that was in the process of shrinking due to the onset of the dry season. The white stripe spilling off of the peak is ash, not snow.
