Viewed from the summit of Kilimanjaro, Mt. Meru, Tanzania's second-highest mountain at 14,800 ft (4560 m), is forty miles (65 km) away and looks deceptively small. At left is a wall of ice that forms the western edge of the southern glacier fields.
