Across the highway from the main gate is a series of general-goods shops, or maduka in Swahili. The most well-stocked of these was the Pascal Shop, where I would often go to buy bread, rice, spaghetti, detergent, beer, etc. The young man behind the security grille, Issa, is a fixture of the day shift there, although he is not the owner.
