We enjoyed our first clear view of our distant goal on the second day. From here, the rim of the Maundi Crater, a small feature on the flanks of Kilimanjaro, Kibo is visible as a splash of brilliant white on the horizon. Dark Mawenzi Peak is much closer here, and hence appears larger, although it is shrouded in cloud. Shukuru Rajabu (center) requested that I take this shot of her with teachers Japhet Mpande (right) and Adam Gillespie, who is showing off an inlated condom which served briefly as an ill-fated air pressure experiment.
