MADISON
Madison is Wisconsin's beautiful Capital City. It is built on an Isthmus between two lakes with a population near 200,000 people. The city's centerpiece is the majestic State Capitol. Set on the highest point of land on the isthmus, the Capitol dominates the skyline for miles. Madison is renowned for its scenic beauty. Visitors enjoy the abundance of cultural, social and recreational activities.
The City of Madison - capital of Wisconsin, home to the great University of Wisconsin, city of lakes, was rated the 1996 Best Place to live!, 1997 Top Ten City & Top Ten Safest City.
TRANSPORTATION
BY PLANE:
The Dane County Regional Airport is located on the far northeast corner of Madison. Taxis can take you to town for approximately $15.00 one way. Major airlines serving Madison include: Midwest Express, United, American, Midway and Northwest. You may also fly into Milwaukee's General Mitchell Airport or Chicago's O'Hare Airport and continue to Madison via bus.
BY BUS:
Greyhound bus lines run to Madison. Call (800) 231-2222 for fare and schedule information. Taxis are available from the terminal to the University. From Chicago: The Alco Van Galder bus line runs 14 times daily between Chicago's O'Hare Airport and the Memorial Union. The one way fare is currently $20.00 and travel time is ~3 hours. From Milwaukee: The Badger Coaches runs 6 trips daily from Milwaukee's General Mitchell Airport directly to the Memorial Union for $11.00 one way or $20.00 round trip. Travel time is ~2 hours. Call (608) 255-6771 for fare and schedule information.
BY CAR:
Madison lies about 150 miles northwest of Chicago (~2.5 hour drive), 75 miles west of Milwaukee (~1.5 hour drive) and 270 miles southeast of Minneapolis (~5 hour drive).
