Astro 103 Honors students: information

The honors credit for this course consists of comleting lab projects and submitting three lab reports. Honors credit will be earned on the basis of satisfactory performance on these reports.

Lab 1

Our first meeting will take place Wed., Feb 4 at 2:30 PM in Sterling 5517. Prof. Linda Sparke will be running this session. This meeting is not required but will be a nice introduction to the first assignment. I highly recommend you attend.

The first required honors session will be Wed. Feb 11, at 2:30 or 3:30 PM in Sterling 5517. Again, you are required to attend. In this sessions we will start the first of three labs/exercises that you will be asked to do this semester for honors credit in Astro 103.

Before Feb 11 try and do the following reading (I understand you might not get to it because of the exam that day):

Sections 10.5 - 10.7, 14.3, 15.1

The first lab will be web-based. You can take a look at a preliminary version of it at:
http://www.astro.wisc.edu/~mab/education/astro113/galclass_lab.html.

The first lab report will be due Fri. Feb 27. We will discuss more about what should be in the report on Feb. 11. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Lab 2

The second lab will begin on Wednesday, March 18th, 5517 Sterling, at either 2:30 PM or 3:30 PM, lasting for one hour. You are welcome to stay for the full two hours. The lab description will be distributed in class on Monday, March 16th. Further information on the write-up for this lab and its due date will be provided in the Wednesday honors section.
