Welcome!
During my summer research here at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, I worked with the Prof. Dan McCammon’s X-Ray Astrophysics group. Prof. McCammon is interested in studying the diffuse soft x-ray back ground and its origins. In addition, the group is involved in the development of new detectors that will help them in their research. This summer, I learned a great deal about experimental techniques in x-ray Astrophysics. I found it fascinating to learn about the whole process of creating new detectors, using the detectors to make observations, and then the analyzation of the data that has been collected.
My main project this summer was to obtain a spectrum of the Fe-55 calibration source on board the x-ray satellite Chandra using detectors called microcalorimeters. To read more about my project check out the research link at the top of this page. Here is the poster that I presented at the 2008 AAS meeting in Long Beach, California: AAS Poster You can also check out the other links to read a little about me, see pictures, and check out the other 2008 REU web pages. Enjoy!
Thank you so much to Prof. Dan McCammon and the x-ray group: Don Brandl, Gwynne Crowder, Greg Jaehnig, Carolyn Streiff, and Ian Teplin. Also, I’d like to thank Ed Mierkiewicz for doing an amazing job of coordinating the REU program.
