"KISS - Heavy Metal"

KISS - the KPNO International Spectroscopic Survey - was the first wide-field survey for emission-line galaxies that combined the traditional objective-prism method with modern CCD detectors. The resulting catalogs of star-forming galaxies and AGN can be used for a wide variety of science applications. In this talk, I will focus on the measurement of metal abundances for the starburst component of KISS. Topics to be discussed include the metallicity-luminosity relation, the search for ultra-metal-poor galaxies, and the measurement of abundances at high redshift.
