2019-20 Astronomy Department Career Events

Throughout the academic year the Astronomy Department holds the following major and career events. Some event dates occasionally change, please check this page for the latest updates.

  • Astronomy Majors/Potential Majors Welcome Star Party: Telescopes & snacks. Sterling Rooftop, Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2019, 6:30-9:00pm. 
  • L&S Majors Fair: Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019, 3:30-6:00pm, Varsity Hall, Union South.
  • REU/Graduate School Preparation Workshop: Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2019 (time to be determined). Application and Interview Strategies for Applying to Graduate School or REU (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) Summer Research Programs.
  • Welcome Back Winter Mixer: Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2020, 5:00-6:00pm. (Location TBD) Welcome back social for undergraduate and graduate students.

AstroGLU (Astronomy Graduate Lectures for Undergraduates)

  • Want to know more about how astronomers study stars, galaxies, and the cosmos? Come and hear from local students about their corner of the universe!
  • Recent talks: 'Asteroseismology: The Music of the Stars'. Speaker: Jacqueline Goldstein; '3D Glasses for the Universe - Integral Field Units (IFUS) and Their Applications'. Speaker: Tim Haines.
  • Everyone is welcome!  Look for our posters during the Fall and Spring semesters.
