Pine Bluff Observatory SRT Installed

Dec 13, 2012

Rick VanDer Geest of the UW Astronomy Department has just finished installing the department's second Small Radio Telescope (SRT) at the Pine Bluff Observatory. The SRT will teach students about radio astronomy techniques. Excellent Galactic hydrogen spectra are being produced in a few seconds of integration time. The department now has two 2.3-meter radio telescopes working. The other is on the roof of Sterling Hall. Because of Pine Bluff's rural setting 15 miles west of Madison, the radio interference environment is much lower than on the UW campus.
