In Memoriam: Professor Lowell Doherty

Mar 30, 2021

It is with great sadness that we note the passing of Lowell R. Doherty, Emeritus Professor of Astronomy at the University of Wisonsin-Madison. Lowell served as faculty within the Department of Astronomy for almost 30 years, retiring in 1992. His research interests during his career spanned a broad range of topics, from ultraviolet observations of stars using OAO-2 (the first operational space telescope) through to radio-wavelength studies of galaxies. His legacy endures in the Department through the Doherty Award for Excellence in Astronomy, presented annually to an undergraduate student.

Lowell's obituary (published originally in the Santa Fe New Mexican) can be veiwed here.
