"A Celebration of OAO-2, 50 Years After Launch"

The Department of Astronomy of the University of Wisconsin-Madison and UW Space Place invite you to a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the launch of NASA’s Orbiting Astronomical Observatory-2, the world’s first successful space observatory, which paved the way for the Hubble Space Telescope.  Throughout the evening we will screen the long lost, but recently digitized, 1964 documentary film about Wisconsin’s vital role in the OAO project. At 7:00 pm we will open a group discussion about the history and science of OAO.  Tours of the original OAO and Wisconsin Experiment Package equipment as well as refreshments will be available throughout.  We hope you will join us!
