Financial Support

Financial support is provided through university fellowships or departmental assistantships. Contingent on satisfactory progress, the length of guaranteed student support is four continuous years, and many times for an optional 5th year, for those with no prior graduate work. Three continuous years are gauranteed for those with one year or more of prior graduate work.

 

Typically we start new students at a 56% appointment level, after prelims this goes up to 62.88%, and after thesis proposal this goes up to 70.48%. These numbers also depend on who is funding the student, and how much money is available. Once the guaranteed years of funding are over, however, the department will reexamine these percentages
