WOWSA
Women of Wisconsin Strengthening Astronomy (WOWSA) is a program of the Astronomy Department created, led, and organized by female graduate students. The members of WOWSA (female undergraduates, graduate students, research scientists, postdocs, and junior faculty) meet on a bi-weekly basis to accomplish our goals:
- Improve members' confidence by providing a supportive, positive, and safe environment to develop and practice leadership, professional, and assertiveness skills.
- Provide an opportunity for mentoring and networking between females at all levels of their careers.
- Discuss issues involving women and minorities in Astronomy and develop strategies for increasing the role of under-represented groups in the sciences.
- Establish connections and network with senior females in our field through inviting female colloquium speakers and department visitors to join our meetings.
